Sometimes, the simplest recipes are the best. My dogs know exactly what is coming when they hear the mixer come on and stand at the gate until the oven timer goes off.
If you have a dog with a sensitive stomach, you can swap out the flour for any other one. I have tested this recipe with both whole wheat and oat flour. Both turned out great! With both an apple and applesauce, there is more than enough moisture.
You can easily dehydrate these as well. My dogs are smaller, so I cut these into small pieces and then dehydrated for 6 hours @ 150. I use the COSORI Food Dehydrator.
Applesauce Treats
Delicious snack that stays soft and chewy with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 4 cups Whole Wheat or Oat Flour
- 1 tbsp Baking powder
- 2 tbsp Honey optional
- 1/2 cup Applesauce
- 1 Apple, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
- In a small bowl mix together all the liquid ingredients
- In a large bowl mix together all the dry ingredients
- Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well blended.
- Pour into greased muffin tins or silicone molds.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out dry.
- Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Notes
- These are quite big, perfect size for large dogs or cut in pieces for small dogs.
- You can easily make this gluten-free by using oat flour.
- You can decide to dehydrate these to give them some extra crunch, I did this for 6 hours @ 150.
